Similar to the Chengdu Hunters and Guangzhou Charge, the Hangzhou Spark are another Asia division team who entered the OWL in 2019. Part of the Pacific East Division, the Spark represent Hangzhou, China and are owned by media company Bilibili. Their signature colours are pink and light blue, and their logo features a right-pointing hand shooting out lightning. The Spark started strong in the 2019 season, but couldn’t quite keep the moment heading into this most recent year of competition.
The Spark’s roster currently consists of 11 active players. They are as follows:
Unlike some other teams, the Spark retained a strong core of veteran players. Players like guxue, architect, and shy are league veterans and vital members of the Spark roster. In addition to these players, the Spark also recruited several new players after the 2020 season like MCD and BERNAR. As is evident, this gives the Spark a roster depth that not many OWL teams can match. With this depth, the Shock likely hope to rotate players often depending on matchups and quickly adapt to their opponents’ strategies. Needless to say, this gives us an easier time doing Hangzhou Spark predictions, which in turns makes our OW betting experience a bit easier.
In their first Overwatch League season, the Spark came out and proved themselves as serious title contenders. After advancing far in both the stage 2 and stage 3 playoffs, the Spark finished with the 4th overall regular-season record. In the regular season playoffs, their run was ended by the San Francisco Shock, but they still reached an impressive 4th place spot. Following this impressive debut, the Spark hoped to continue their success into the 2020 season, but were unable to surpass their previous performances. In the 2020 OWL season, the Spark lacked some of the flair and “spark” that propelled them to a near-podium finish in 2019. At the end of the regular season, they finished with the 10th-best record overall. In the Asia playoffs, they finished in the 5th/6th spot, slightly below their 2019 finish. However, their standout moment came during the OWL Countdown Cup, where they rallied past several favoured teams to reach a 2nd place finish.
