The Chengdu Hunters joined the Overwatch League in 2019 as part of the international expansion that introduced several teams outside of the US into the OWL. They are owned and operated out of Chengdu, China, and are currently owned by live streaming company HUYA Inc. Their team logo is the face of a panda looking straight ahead in their signature black and gold colours. Following their introduction to the League, the Hunters have so far remained consistently average or above-average in their placements.
The Chengdu Hunters roster currently features 11 active players. They are as follows:
Entering the offseason, the Hunters wasted no time in bolstering their roster with several promising new recruits like Jimmy, Kaneki, and Nisha among others. Additionally, they were able to maintain a solid core of veteran players familiar with the Hunters organization, such as Yveltal, JinMu, and Ameng. This leaves the Chengdu Hunters with an expansive amount of options and choices around starting rosters, something that not all OWL teams have. With such a broad roster, we predict that the Chegndu Hunter will be one of the most team bet on when it comes to Overwatch betting. The Hunters likely plan to use this roster depth better counter opposing teams and elevate their rankings.
In the 2019 season, the Hunters finished with the 12th overall record and similarly were knocked out of the playoffs in the 11th/12th spot. In many ways, the Hunters were outshone by many of the other regional teams who joined during the expansion, like the Guangzhou Charge and the Hangzhou Spark. Following this finish, the Hunters were eager to catch up with their rivals. In the 2020 season, the Hunters certainly managed to elevate their level of play, increasing their Overwatch betting odds, but missed out on grabbing the top spot on several occasions. In both the Summer Showdown and May Melee tournaments, the Hunters finished in th 5th/7th tie spot. However, they were able to snap this streak in the Countdown Cup, ending up in a very respectable tie for 3rd/4th place. After this, the Hunters were able to finish in the 6th place in the Asia Playoffs after holding only the 14th best record in the League. While the Hunters certainly showed improvement in the 2019 season, expect them to push for even higher ranking in the upcoming season.
